[He didn't resist her arms curling around him, expecting a quick embrace even if history stated that Jinx did enjoy lingering in those. His hands remained clenched until he could convince them to release and strive for an outward appearance of normal while internally he was a raging storm. He would have his tantrum about all of this on his own, as he usually did.
It was clear that she was concerned enough about his response already that adding to it could push her away, and he wasn't going to risk that. No, he had conceive of a way to hold her tighter, to show that he remained the best option out of the many that were crawling out of the woodwork. He was her family.]
I committed to us being a family, and I won't let that change.
[He shifted to curl an arm around her back lightly.]
The life upon the Earth is suffering itself. [There is a sense of finality to his word this time. The world was the hell and pain was the way of living. No matter how he'd run or hide the suffering wouldn't end. The sinful desires would always follow him like a shadow. That is the realization that had he come to during that night when Buckingham had forced him to admit his true self. It was the reason he continued to fight, knowing better than to let idle pleasures make him compliant and fat. It was something he was sure Silco would agree on.
It was what pushed men like them to defy the fate.
Richard's fingers slid up along the smooth silk of the cravat, past the collar so that the gloved tips could make contact with the skin. The long and thin digit kept caressing Silco's throat, carefully pressing on the Adam's apple before moving up to feel the sharp edges of his jawline.
He was right, of course. There was no throne for him to sit on nor a crown to gather light from. This world continued to be bleak and hellish with its all confusing and irrational nonsense. The most people continued to be insufferable, but at least he got along with them better now. Sort of. They would not want a ruler, or so they'd think. Richard had his plans for that, which some of them he had openly discussed with his lover, while keeping some cards still hidden. And he had no reason to think that Silco didn't do the same.
His thumb kept brushing Silco's chin, reaching up to lightly pull on the lower lip as he he considered Silco's question.] I suppose only the time will tell where I land, hmm?
But I can promise you this, you will want to stay on my good graces. [The words are spoken as a light whisper, despite carrying weight of the dark promise. One that was willing to see how the cards were played out between them.]
But you don't think I only invited you here to talk, Silco? [It had been some time since they last had came together like this.]
I won't dispute that reality, no. However, there are methods and activities which can lessen that suffering for oneself. [His tone was far more whimsey, aware that both himself and Richard would bask in sin and never feel regret for it. This was who they were, and in that, the suffering was eased as they had each other to share aspects of it with. They had limited time of course, which meant they had to make the most of what they had in this false reality.
Silco stood for the slide of Richard's hand along his collar, touching his throat (which caused faint tension), and then he leaned into those fingers sliding along his jawline. His hand moved to caress the side of Richard's face with a finger, drawing back that curtain of hair so that it could be tucked behind the younger man's ear.
He leaned in closer, as if he might share a secret but decided not to speak. No, he studied his lover in the dim light of the cellar-like bunker. With no throne, he knew that there were other avenues. He wondered if they should venture down that path together or separately, meeting somewhere in the middle. Had Richard ever brought people to their knees before? Silco had. Shimmer. There were other methods, ones he had slowly maneuvered himself into since the start of his tenure here.]
Indeed, a mystery to be certain. Time will tell. [He had an idea. Silco was keen to understand rivals for power after all. It wasn't his fault he happened to be bedding one of the most dangerous ones (it actually was).] Have I ever stepped from your good graces for long, hmm? There are many reasons we still enjoy one another's company.
[He feigned curiosity.] Did you not invite me here to show me your new little hide-out?
[ Okay, that's public service announcement taken care of... now he needs to make one more announcement, but he'd rather make this one private. ]
Hey, old man. See the mess outside? [ Of course he has, he'd have to be blind to miss it. But he has to start the message somewhere. ] Do me a favor and sit this one out, 'kay? I won't be able to protect you from that.
[Silco had, in fact, seen the mess that was going on at the edge of town, though the cause wasn't readily apparent until Ragna's announcement. It made sense, he supposed. He didn't like that he was receiving a private message, finding it deeply uncomfortable and raising the old prickles of abandonment issues.
He made an aggravated noise at the theatrics. Well, Ragna did fit into the family dynamic well enough.]
What is this nonsense? I saw your announcement, and do I look like the fighting type? I hired you for that job. This isn't a touchy moment before you make a stupid self-sacrifice play, is it?
[ Honestly, given how poorly Jinx is taking this? Ragna is kind of grateful for the abrasive attitude Silco's displaying. This? This is something he can deal with. Though the fact the older man seems to have more or less figured out what his plan of action is does leave him a little uncomfortable. Is he really that predictable? ]
As if I'd ever do that. [ He means the "touchy moment" part, of course; he has no room to argue against the "stupid self-sacrifice" one. ] No, I just wanted to give you a heads-up so you don't wander off somewhere, get yourself hurt and then whine about it being my fault.
[It wasn't hard for him to understand where this was going. Ragna might be an intimidating lay-about, but in the end, the younger man cared. If this was a monster the man was familiar with, no doubt there was some misplaced obligation to deal with it regardless of being down an arm and an eye.]
You're never in a position to tell me what to do. Besides, if you actually wanted me to stay inside, you'd do your job and bodyguard so there is limited risk. [He actively sneered.] After all, you are down an arm, an eye and actual sense.
[ Okay, time out. Dismissiveness is one thing, but that's almost weirdly aggressive, even for Silco. Ragna really doesn't need to deal with this right now, so he lets out a sigh and tries to start over. ]
... Believe me, if it was an option, I'd do just that. But... there's no other way.
[ It's not like he wants to become one with that... thing. He hardly has any memories of the timelines where he'd turned into one of those, and he's never wanted to think back to them. It's not fun, it's not pretty, and he'll hate every moment of it as he continues to hurt everyone around him until they finally manage to take him down. ]
All I'm saying is, the last thing Jinx needs right now is you getting hurt.
[His aggressiveness was not going to de-escalate when it was clear that Ragna was going to make the self-sacrifice play. He was just getting used to the other man hanging around more and on a level that Silco actively engaged with.
As much as he was dismissive and disparaging of Ragna, a part of him had already committed to this whole 'family' description. That made him extra nasty.]
Fine. Jinx and I will come and find you. We will find a different solution than this ridiculous plot you're cooking with.
[ Oh, this is rich; now he's gonna lecture Ragna about how to solve his own problems? He never imagined the man would take the "father" role so seriously. ]
Which part of "stay outta this" do you not understand?!
[ Ragna snaps in response, rising his voice. It's quite obvious that while he was content with the idea of sacrificing himself for the sake of others, the thought of others putting their own lives at risk for him is unfathomable. ]
You two are in way over your heads! The hell are you gonna do, toss paperwork at it?!
The part where this is automatically my business because it will upset Jinx. And the part where you're my bodyguard and you're once again slacking on the job I hired you for.
[It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else as long as the logic was something Silco could argue about. He was already making plans to put a stop to this, contingencies on where they could go and avoid the worst of this. There were enough heroic types that could take this job on.
He huffed noisily, aggravated in return. He could be heard moving around his business, probably gathering supplies.]
If that's what it takes. I can monologue for hours and put the beast to sleep.
[Was that a joke? No, he probably could, but more to the point, Ragna wasn't stopping him from coming even if he understood inherently that he could do nothing. He needed to see with his own eyes. Abandonment issues were difficult to contend with and unreasonable.]
[ None of that makes any sense to him; yes, Jinx will be upset, he'll give him that, but what Ragna is doing is protecting him and everyone else in the city. He's this close to arguing him on that point, but the reasonable part of him knows he can't out-talk Silco of all people. Besides, there's no time for that ─ instead, he clicks his tongue in irritation, quickening his pace. He needs to do what he set out to do before those two idiots catch up to him and make things even more complicated than they already are. ]
Suit yourself. But don't come crying to me if you get yourself killed.
[ He doesn't mean it, of course; hell, he's currently trying to sacrifice his life to actively prevent that. But it's clear he's rather pissed off. This was meant to be a casual piece of helpful advice, and yet it ended up blowing up in his face. Typical. ]
Surely you don't actually believe I'm capable of shedding tears.
[He was going to try to find Ragna after calling on Jinx to be his bodyguard. At least one of the two could perform the basics of their job. He wouldn't negotiate further on the matter, aware that it was fruitless and Ragna was set on this fool's errand of heroics.]
[ Actually, he doubts he would ever see Silco cry; it would probably take something horrible happening to Jinx to get him to that point, and Ragna's not gonna allow it... as long as he's around, at least. ]
I think I'll live.
[ ... He'll live... if he dies? Listen, all he's got are snappy comebacks, not smart ones. ]
No, apparently you're about to rush off and be a idiot. Now wait for us, and I may spare you a twitch of my lips or something.
[He knew that he needed to locate Jinx and quickly. He would need her to focus so that they could cover distance quickly and hunt down Ragna. Surely the man couldn't make such a silly self-sacrifice play if he were confronted with Jinx in person.]
Each day I am reminded that you are, in fact, a moron. Live and we'll leave town.
[the area that's somewhat off-limits due to it being vander's home for her, vi, and the rest. she secretly goes down there from time to time, but tries not to linger in the memory lane for too long.]
No, you will have your hammock in my office. I will sleep in my chair.
[He had no interest in sleeping in the basement. He had horded supplies down there anyway, so the room was limited on what they could use as an abode.]
