Of course, he came from a place where self-hatred was common place, but people were far more willing to weaponize it and make the people and society around them pay for such misgivings. It was only fair after being held beneath the water, deprived and enslaved for years or even lifetimes. Richard deserved to be free or at least pretend that those thorns couldn't hold him forever.
